Gift Baskets for Women in Need
Wednesday, five gifts baskets were delivered to the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Program office in Port Townsend, Washington. Each basket contained a broom, paper towels, pot holders, measuring cups, a mop, and other household items.
The baskets were created and donated by women from First Presbyterian Church, and were intended to be “home-warming” gift baskets for women leaving a Port Townsend shelter called Pat’s Promise. The shelter houses 12 women and their children. While there, the women are assisted in finding safe places to live. According to the shelter, once women find a home, they have difficulty providing basic household items because they can’t afford them.
After hearing about the need, some women from the church decided to do something. After taking an offering, the women were able to pay for the baskets to be filled with essential items including things like matches, a can opener, plastic containers for leftovers, cleaning supplies and paper products.
Additionally, the shelter is currently working on creating a book to go with each basket that has directions for making green-cleaning products, inexpensive recipes, and inspirational thoughts about housekeeping.
